Uber Driver Ruled Employee, Not Contractor

The California Labor Commission ruled on June 3 that a former Uber driver was misclassified by the company as an independent contractor and should have been an employee. Uber classifies all of its drivers across the US as independent contractors. The company has remained steady in its conviction that its drivers are independent contractors and, so far, has had success holding to this model. However, if the California ruling is upheld, it could potentially be very influential in other cases as Uber faces class-action lawsuits from drivers claiming they were misclassified as independent contractors.
