New York City Joins “Ban the Box” Movement

Ban-the-BoxNew York City has jumped on the “Ban the Box” bandwagon. It has passed a new bill restricting an employer’s ability to inquire into or obtain information about a job applicant’s criminal history before extending a conditional offer of employment. New York City companies that have employees in the city should determine whether they are covered by the law, and if so, whether they need to revise their job applications, offer letters, background check processes, and the guidelines and documentation they use during the hiring process.
